Greenhouse Gas
As part of our commitment to the environment, Weastec is dedicated to taking proactive steps to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. In 2008, our first Greenhouse Gas reduction plan was implemented. This goal was to reduce our Greenhouse Gas emissions by 10% by 2020. We exceeded this benchmark, achieving a 12% reduction in 2012, 8 years early and 2% above our goal. Since 2012, we have further reduced our carbon footprint by installing 100% LED lighting throughout our facilities, replacing our boilers with 95% efficient units, installing an electronic HVAC system control, and replacing air compressors with high efficiency units, as well as other projects designed to reduce our energy consumption.
In 2023, we launched our CO2 Reduction Team. Weastec has made the commitment to environmental excellence and is actively working towards reducing our Greenhouse Gas emissions by 4.2% annually beginning in 2025, with a goal of having zero absolute emissions by 2050. Our commitment to reducing greenhouse gases isn’t static; it’s an ongoing journey of improvement and innovation. Beginning in January 2024, Weastec is partnering with IGS in the purchase of Unbundled Vintage RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates). In the short term, this will eliminate our recordable CO2 emissions for our electricity usage.
Weastec actively collaborates with industry partners, suppliers, and stakeholders to explore innovative solutions and best practices that further contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases throughout the supply chain. Our commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with our responsibility to curb our environmental impact and pave the way for a cleaner, greener future.
At Weastec, we’re not just reducing emissions, we’re fostering a better tomorrow through tangible actions today.
